The manual is addressed to the trainers, teachers, educators, instructors and facilitators who want to offer workshops on inclusive leadership or carry these out internally in their organisation.
Inclusive leadership is a leadership approach which appreciates diversity and enables individual contributions.
Inclusive leaders encourage engagement with the processes of decision-making and the shared shaping of reality. Throughout this, the focus is placed on different groups and individuals. The aim is to open up space for all individuals and for different groups.
Training activities in the area of inclusive leadership require a specific educational approach and inclusive facilitation. Alongside passing on the key content of inclusive leadership, participants should be enabled to experience and internalise an inclusive leadership learning and working environment. Trainers and educators should themselves be on the journey of inclusive leaders and should practice this leadership approach in their workshop.
Tips for Trainers
Include the quick check tool in your workshop. It is an ideal taster for the participants for the collaborative learning experience of inclusive leadership. Ask the participants to carry out the quick check tool in preparation for the workshop.
The 18 questions in total cover the four learning and development areas, already giving the participants an insight into the theory and leading them directly to self-reflection. This will help you to get participants in the right mindset for the challenges of inclusive leadership and it will allow them to carry out an initial self-assessment of their current position and the extent to which they are leading inclusively.
Pick up on the quick check tool again within the workshop. There are different possibilities for this:
- Address the quick check tool at the start of the workshop: ask the participants about their impressions and experiences. This will help you quickly to find common ground, to involve all those participating and encourage discussion.
- For multi-day workshops: ask the participants to complete the quick check tool once again on the evening of the first day. Start the second workshop day with a discussion about whether there are differing results between the quick check tool completed before and during the workshop.
- Ask the participants to complete the quick check tool again after having taken part in your workshop and, if applicable, to repeat this at regular intervals. Both differing and similar results will prompt reflection and accompany the participants’ learning process.
The quick check tool is also useful for clarifying whether the workshop you offer corresponds with the needs and expectations of those interested in taking part. The self-analysis gives a good first impression of what is in store for the participants in your workshop.
